Important Aspects of Physician Scheduling Software

May 13th, 2011 by admin

Important Aspects of Physician Scheduling SoftwareHospitals have to keep track of many things. They have to keep track of their patients, their medication, and all of their employees. This can be a very daunting task. If you are in charge of managing the staff at a hospital, you might want to consider getting a physician scheduling software program. Here are a couple of things that you should look for when buying one of these programs.

The most important thing to look for when buying a new program is its usability. You need to find a program that you will be able to start using right away. This is especially important in a hospital. You can not have a day of screw ups. Mishandling the schedule in a hospital can lead to sickness and even death. That is why it is very important that you are able to familiarize yourself with a program almost instantly.

When you shop around for programs you are probably going to find some that have very unique features. Do not be persuaded by the extras in a program. A program that has all the basics, and does the basics well, is the best program to buy.

You also want to make sure that your physician scheduling software can program appointments. A hospital is going to have to schedule hundreds of appointments a day. It is also very likely that these appointments are going to be changed or canceled by the patients. It is important that you can keep up with all the changes that go on during the day.

Also, a good physician scheduling software program will allow you to see multiple doctors within the hospital. This means that if a certain doctor is not available, you will be able to find another doctor very quickly. This can help you to make sure that no patient goes untreated.

Why Does My Internet Keep Crashing – How to Troubleshoot This Problem and Fix It

Why Does My Internet Keep Crashing - How to Troubleshoot This Problem and Fix It If you find your internet connection keeps crashing on you all the time and closing for no obvious reason at all it can be very frustrating, especially when you have to keep opening your browser every few minutes. If this keeps happening it can also lead to system errors as files start to corrupt and lead to windows running slow as well and crashing if this is not fixed.

If you find your browser keeps crashing here are the steps you need to take to fix this yourself.

#1 Look at your internet connection. If there is a problem with your line you may find your browser stops responding and even appears to freeze The first thing you should do before you start looking at your computer for the answer is to disconnect your router for a few minutes and then reconnect it. It may be the router or you’re your line that Is the problem.

#2 If the first step does not work and you are connected to the internet via a LAN connection disconnect the lan cable from your computer. Occasionally garbage information can cause your network connection to stop responding. Disconnect the lan cable from your PC and then reconnect it.

#3 Try a different browser. If internet explorer is crashing try firefox. If another browser works uninstall the browser that is crashing and then reinstall it or upgrade it to resolve this issue. If you are using internet explorer and that is crashing try updating it with windows update which you can find on the windows start menu.

#4 Scan your computer for viruses and malware. Even with antivirus software installed on your computer it is still possible for it to get infected with malicious software that will cause your internet connection to crash. Instead of running quick system scan run a deep or full scan on your system. This will find malicious software that buries itself deep inside your computer so a quick antivirus scan will not find it.

#5 Empty your temporary internet files and cache. It is possible that some temporary files are infected with malware or corrupt and are causing your browser and your internet connection to crash. Go to the windows start menu and then to accessories, then system tools and then run disk cleanup. Select all the default options and run it.

#6 If your computer still runs slow then there may be malware or registry corruption on your PC. Tarrying to find this manually is an impossible task unless you get lucky. The easiest way to check for this is to run a system and registry scanner. If your computer is infected with hidden malware or has corrupt registry entries then running a scan will help fix it. All you need to do is to download a system scanner and run a full scan. This will help you to find any errors and stop your internet connection crashing on you.

Dyslexia Software – Talking Word Processors

April 29th, 2011 by admin

Dyslexia Software - Talking Word ProcessorsTalking Word Processors

In a previous article about dyslexia software I wrote about three pieces of software that supported a dyslexic user in working successfully and competently with an ordinary word processor such as Microsoft Word. Well, in this article I want to briefly examine slightly different software- talking word processors. This software would mostly suit children with dyslexia who are still in primary education or people who have dyslexia in combination with other learning disabilities. The reason that I say this is because the talking versions are very different in their looks and their functions than the mainstream versions. They look less complicated and sophisticated than their mainstream rivals and they perform fewer functions. They are a perfect match for children with dyslexia who need a simpler interface and do not care so much about looks!

Three Good Examples

The talking word processors that I want to analyse in more detail are; Intellitalk 3, Write Outloud and Clicker 5. This type of software were not just developed to meet the needs of the dyslexic market. They were designed to cater for people (children especially) who have a variety of learning difficulties. Yet for me they are an excellent means of supporting a child with dyslexia in a couple of respects. Any specialist piece of software must make a person with a disability more independent in order to be truly considered great. Talking word processors do that because of they read text back to the user and, as already stated, they are much simpler to use than something like Microsoft Word.

A Multi Sensory Approach

Talking word processors can work so powerfully with people with dyslexia because they provide multi sensory support. A mainstream word processor, working on its own, only works through one sense- vision. The user looks at the screen and reads what they have written. That is no good for someone with dyslexia because they cannot be sure, without the arduous use of a spell check facility, that what they have written makes any sense. With dyslexia, poor spelling skills reinforce poor reading skills. It is a vicious circle that is hard to break. The speech function in these talking word processors offers light at the end of the tunnel because individual letters or whole words are read out as they are typed. Sound is used to complement vision.

Much Less Typing

Talking word processors such as Intellitalk 3, Write Outloud and Clicker 5 also support a person with dyslexia effectively because words can be written and sentences can be made without the need for much, if any, typing. I am not talking here about word processors that allow to user to dictate into them using speech to text facility. I am referring to the grids of words that can be placed on the screen and can be added into a document by the click of a mouse.

Much More Focus

The reason why this is so important to a child with dyslexia is that word processing requires a range of individual skills being used at the same time. It requires a user to multi task. The ability to spell words and to type them fluently are some of the most important. On top of this, a person must then think about what to say- how to express yourself (and this is the most important skill.) Successful word processing requires these skills to be combined correctly. The brain only has a fixed amount of concentration that it can allocate to a task and a dyslexic person will need to concentrate greatly on the spelling and typing probably at the great expense of the creative process of thinking what to say. Talking word processors, by providing on screen grids to be accessed, allow more concentration to be used where it is needed (in the creative writing process) rather than on the dull mechanics of spelling and typing.

Matlab performs a variety of mathematical functions like creation of user interfaces, plotting of data and functions, implementing the data etc. It is used by millions of people worldwide and almost every industry is relying on its use to perform mathematical problems.

Matlab is a platform where the user can easily perform all his mathematical exercises. Matlab was developed in 1970′s by Cleve Moler, who was a professor in University of New Mexico. Over the years, Matlab has undergone many changes and modifications in order to improve it further.

Matlab is nowadays more preferred in finance niche as it is highly accurate and reliable. In order to use Matlab or the Matrix Laboratory, you have to first learn the language of Matlab or the M-Code. Matlab is primarily used with multi-dimensional arrays, 2D Matrices and 1D vector. It can also call libraries, which are written in ActiveX or in Java. Matlab enables the users to solve the mathematical languages more easily and quickly than as compared to other programming languages like C or Fortran and thus it is more apt for use in finance, in which both speed and reliability is required.

Initially, Matlab was only restricted to a few design control engineers, however, because of its high utility it soon spread to the other domains in the industry. Today, Matlab is not only used in industry but it has also found use in colleges, universities, military, stock exchange etc.

Matlab has proved to be a boon for finance. No one can deny the importance of Matlab in the field of finance. Human beings are not capable of solving exhaustive mathematical problems that too, with a high degree of precision.

If you have dyslexia and you use the Internet frequently, in all probability you have some experience of text to speech software. This is because with the variety of activities that can be done using the Internet, the ability to read text remains an essential skill in getting the most out of pages on the Internet. Basic reading skills are a challenge for most people with dyslexia which is where text to speech technology can play an important supporting role. This type of software for dyslexia enables text that is written on documents or on webpages to be read out loud. The benefits for a person with reading difficulties are very clear.

Four Pieces of Software to Avoid

At its best, text to speech software can be amazingly helpful but in this article I want to focus on the pieces of software that you do not want to waste your time using. They are; Microsoft Narrator, Opera Voice, Accessibar and FireVox.

1. Microsoft Narrator

Narrator is the text to speech software that is part of Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Pros- It is free and since it is already installed, the user can just start it up and use it.

Cons- It will not read text on webpages because it only reads text as it is typed. You cannot select the text that you want it to read and it does not highlight the text that it is reading!

2. Opera Voice

This is the text to speech software that is designed to be used inside the Opera web browser

Pros- It is free and downloading and installing it is a simple and quick process. Text that you want read out can be selected with the mouse. Text is read out within the web browser- there is no need to open up other software.

Cons- It only works in the Opera web browser. Text that is read out is not highlighted word for word. The quality of the voice could be better and less robotic. The software can be unreliable and suddenly stop working.

3. Accessibar for Firefox

Pros- It is free. It reads text from within the web browser. If the user hovers over text with the mouse, it will read out that paragraph.

Cons- It only works in the Firefox web browser. It is very complicated to install. It has a very low quality voice. It does not highlight the text that is read out.

4. FireVox

Pros- It is free and easy to install. It reads text from within the web browser. Text that you want read out can be selected with the mouse. Text that is read out can be highlighted word by word or as a sentence.

Cons- It is designed to run solely within the Firefox web browser. It is designed primarily for people with visual impairments and so sometimes there are no visual clues about what text is being read out. This can confuse some sighted users.

The Best iPad Apps – Netflix TV Show and Movie Streaming App

December 29th, 2010 by admin

The Best iPad AppsThe Netflix iPad app is one of the best iPad apps available today and was one of the iPad’s first killer apps released last April. Netflix subscribers can instantly watch TV shows and movies which are streamed from Netflix to the Apple iPad using the free Netflix app. It works as magically as it sounds.

The Netflix app has always provided the ability to resume watching where you left off on your TV or Computer through the iPad as the Netflix cloud-based streaming solution inherently provides that ability. The iPad app also provides a pop-up window with a detailed description and photo of the DVD jacket for movies and TV shows subscribers are interested in and want to learn more about as well as the option to rate TV shows and movies you just watched. You can search for content, browse by category, check your account and view and manage your queues. The interface looks identical to the Netflix website.

In addition to the basic features, the Netflix iPad app has upgraded features since initially being released last April. When the iPad was first released, only Apple apps provided support for an external monitor hookup but shortly after launch, the Netflix app added this functionality giving subscribers the ability to use the iPod Dock Connector to VGA Adapter to watch Netflix on a TV, monitor, projector or LCD display that can use a VGA cable.

Streaming TV shows and movies to a handheld tablet? Can that possible work?

This seemingly Star Trek-ish technology does work and works well. Once you enter your Netflix account information into the Netflix app, you have total access to your Netflix account. When you click “Play” on a TV show or movie, the real magic begins as within mere seconds the video content begins playing. The video typically comes across amazingly well. You can perform high speed scrubs, pause and change aspect while watching the movie. Additionally, if you need screenshots of TV shows or movies, you can use the standard iOS screenshot method (holding down the Power button while clicking the “iPad button”.

The Netflix app does encounter issues when the network link is slow causing the audio and video to freeze or audio to disappear. More recently there have been issues with the Netflix streaming servers as there are more adopters of the instant streaming service.

Even with these minor issues that occur infrequently, the Netflix instant streaming service and the Netflix app combined with the iPad create a killer iPad app and is the reason the Netflix iPad app is one of the best iPad apps available.
